Text Box: The UAA nursing class of 2010 started their second of four semesters on August 24th. For the first week, long time resident Diane Carpenter returned to Bethel to volunteer her skills and provide the students with a week long intensive workshop on student study and test taking skills.
   Beginning September 1st, the eight nursing students attend labs at the new Yuut Elitnaurviat Center. The lab area is large and provides an excellent place for the students to learn new skills and practice skills they learned last semester. The lab includes a “state of the art” medical manikin that the students can use to practice nursing skills.
  During the month of October, the students will be in Anchorage for a 3 week long intensive clinical practicum at the Alaska Native Medical Center. They will work closely with the nurses in the operating room, intensive care unit and the medical surgical clinical areas.
    The next class will not start until January 2011, Text Box: but many people who plan on living and working as nurses in the delta have already indicated intent to apply for admission. If you have any questions or if you are interested in becoming a Registered Nurse please contact Evelyn Pensgard at KUC (543-4542) or Mary Weiss, UAA Nursing instructor at KUC (543-4532).

Text Box: Preparing for college is an exciting time! This preparation not only includes getting your financial aid in order, but also taking a placement test called Accuplacer. The test provides results that assist in the placement of English and Math courses. It’s not a right or wrong test, but one that will tell us where you are academically and if you’re ready take a specific level of English or Math.
   Advisors review your results and place you in the appropriate courses. Accurate placement is necessary in order for your advisors to place you exactly where you need to be. Registration for your classes cannot occur until you have completed this step.
Text Box: Placement testing is required if you are a:
 -    First time degree or certificate student;
 -  Transfer student with fewer than 30 UAF transferable credits;
 - Planning to take 100-level written communication, mathematics, reading or any freshman level reading based course.
   To take the ACCUPLACER test contact the KuC Testing Center, located in room 148 at KuC, by calling 1-800-478-5822 extension 528 or 543-4528 and ask for Will Updegrove.
   Remember, taking the placement test is an important step. We look forward to you joining our family at UAF, Kuskokwim Campus.
