What is ANSEP the Biological Sciences Summer Bridging Program?
ANSEP Summer Biological Sciences Bridging Program includes an internship that provides a source of income for college bound students and opens doors to careers in biological sciences. The Program is 10 weeks long and begins during the first week of June and ends the second week of August.
Who can be a ANSEP Summer Bridging Student?
Students must be in their senior year in high school and graduating in May/June 2007.
How do I become an ANSEP Summer Bridging Student?
First, complete the application on the back of this brochure. Students must have passed high school Algebra II, chemistry, and physics successfully.
What should I expect if I am selected?
- All ANSEP Summer bridging students must live on the UAA campus in University housing during the Anchorage portions of the program, even if they live in the Anchorage, Eagle River, Chugiak, Wasilla, or the Palmer area.
- Two weeks of safety and field work training that will prepare you for your 4 week internship in the field.
- You will be a member of a team that participates in a 4 week, 5 day a week collaborative math course. All work will be in groups with other ANSEP Summer Bridge Program students.
- Four week paid internship experience. You will work at least 5 days a week and 8 hours a day in the field with a biologist.
- Real life paid work experience as an intern.
- After successfully completing the Summer Bridging Program you are eligible for a $3,000 scholarship.
- Math preparation for college level classes.

How long is the ANSEP Summer Bridging Program?
Ten weeks beginning in the first week of June and ending the second week of August.
Does the ANSEP Summer Bridging Program pay for airfare to and from Anchorage for students who do not live in the area?
Unfortunately, no. However, ANSEP Summer Bridging Program does pay for the following:
- Housing on the UAA Campus
- Transportation to and from work in the field
- Math class
- Meals during the Anchorage portion of the program (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)
- Group activities
When do I have to use my ANSEP Summer Bridging Scholarship?
You must enroll in the University of Alaska in the fall semester after completing the program.
